Subtext

Option 2: Write a dialogue (funny or not) between two characters. In the dialog, one character should be trying to get something from the other character -- but trying to do so indirectly. You might include the "subtext" in a different font, or you might just make the subtext obvious by the outcome of the conversation.

Matthew

Last night, Brandon forgot to do my homework in math. He decides to ask Matthew for the questions and answers. Brandon sees Matthew walking down the hall.

Brandon: Hello!

Matthew: Hello! How are you?

Brandon: Good. Let me ask you something.

Matthew: Go ahead. Ask a way?

Brandon: I forgot to do my homework last night. I was hoping you could hook me up.

Matthew: Only this time. Ok

Brandon: Thanks! Meet me in the restroom on the 3rd floor.

Matthew: Okay!

Brandon: I walked to the restroom on the 3rd floor and waited.

Matthew: Okay, I am here! Where are you?

Brandon: In the first stall, doing my business

Matthew: Here is the paper.

Brandon: Take the paper. Wait there is doughnuts at the café. Can I give you the paper later?

Matthew: Sure!

Brandon: I took his paper and copied the problems and answers. I went to the 1st floor after I copied the homework.

Matthew: I’m back. Where are you? There was no answer.

Matthew: Don’t do this to me. Where are you? There was still no answer.

Brandon: I headed to my math class and put my things down. As I went out, someone was waiting for me.

Matthew: Aha! You took my paper and copied the answers. Then you got rid of the paper. How dare you? Oh ya, do you have your English homework.

Brandon: Yes I do.

Matthew: Can I see it. I heard that they are giving out free t-shirts at the library, but wait they might see you. Leave the paper with me. When you are done, go to class.

Brandon: okay.

Brandon: I took his essay, removed his name and put my name on it.

Matthew: I wonder if he might be doing something fishy just like what I did to him.

Brandon: Now sitting in my seat and waiting for the teacher to ask for homework, I wonder if he will know what I did.

Brandon: I wonder if he still can find the math homework.

Brandon: Hmm, there will be no end to this.

Matthew: Hmm, there will be no end to this either.
